Lana Del Rey just released a new video for her track “Love,” the first single off her upcoming fifth studio album. The clip, directed by Rich Lee, tells a pretty average love story (boy and girl ride off into the sunset in their vintage car) before trading in the video’s initial West Coast setting for outer space.
While most of Del Rey’s videos tend to rely on the drama of the terrestrial Earth —whether it’s a dusty open road or a rocky beach — she has previously discussed her interest in the extraterrestrial. In an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 last year, LDR said she admired Elon Musk for pushing SpaceX into new territory. “Technologically, we’re advancing so quickly, I don’t want to miss any of it,” she said. “I feel like we’re on the cusp just the way they were in the ‘60s, but in a different way.”
In a statement about the video, she said, «I made my first four albums for me, but this one is for my fans and about where I hope we are all headed,» according to Rolling Stone. I guess she hopes we’re all headed somewhere with a little less gravity.
