Taylor Swift lets loose in the newly released video for her latest Reputation single, “Delicate.” The 28-year-old rolled out the visual after accepting an award for Female Artist of the Year at the 2018 iHeartRadio Music Awards tonight (March 11). Teaming up with Joseph Kahn for another release, it is a tongue-in-cheek free-for-all that sees her letting off some steam. Boasting bold colors and some intricately choreographed dance routines, it is one of Tay’s strongest visuals this era.
In it, the superstar and a team of security guards walk into a hotel where she is swarmed by adoring fans. Overwhelmed by the pressure, she makes some ironic faces in a bathroom mirror before noticing that she has been rendered invisible. Realizing that no one can see her she decides to make the best of her moments of freedom and dances through the hotel and out into a rainy street. Her dance routines blend her traditionally endearing moves with some more impressive feats and finally reach a peak as she does the splits on a car. Shortly after she walks into a bar where she is again the center of attention.
Cute and endearing, the “Delicate” video is definitely one of her stronger visuals in recent memory. “Look What You Made Me Do” felt a little too shady and the Ed Sheeran and Future-assisted “End Game” was lush but failed to make a big impact. She and Kahn decided to pull back on some of the stunts for their latest offering, which really allows her personality to show through. With any luck, the decision will pay off.
Fans are hoping “Delicate” will be able to replicate the success of the hitmaker’s pre-Reputation singles. Although “Look What You Made Me Do” stormed to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, it did not have much staying power. And each of the follow-up releases experienced diminishing returns. That could all change now, and the 1989 siren may be able to inject some life into her latest era in the weeks ahead of her Taylor Swift’s Reputation Stadium Tour. Give the video a spin up top!
