In these rather dark times, One Direction fans have found a ray of light: The 1D guys are all following Zayn Malik on Twitter once again.
Eagle-eyed Directioners noticed that Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson — as well as the official One Direction Twitter account — are all now part of Malik’s 28.5 million followers. It’s unclear exactly when all of those follows happened (or when the guys had previously unfollowed Malik), but the development certainly has fans in a frenzy.
Hashtags like #OneDirectionReunion and a more timely #1DOnlineConcertStayAtHome have flooded Twitter recently, with several fans rounding up hints of a reunion beyond the guys re-following Malik, who left the group in 2015. Others are taking to Twitter to simply freak out: «I’m not sure what to do with myself,» one fan wrote in all caps, adding, «if this is real help me.»

In fact, the “Pillowtalk” singer would have you believe that he isn’t interested in stardom — while posing for a high-profile magazine cover. “I don’t work well in group situations, with loads of people staring at me,” Zayn complains. “And when you say ‘star’… everyone wants you to be this kind of character that owns a room or is overly arrogant or confident. I’m not that guy,” he maintains. “So I don’t want to be a star.” Sure. You can click through the hitmaker’s pics up top and read the full interview here.

Zayn Malik is gearing up for a pop takeover in 2018, and new music may be on the way far sooner than expected. The 25-year-old has taken to posting poems and potential song lyrics on social media recently, and today (February 20) he shared several recordings of a song he is working on. The audio strips back the production to give a taste of the direction the former One Directioner is currently exploring. On them, his voice rises over a sparse piano melody. “She wants somebody to love her. To hold her. She wants somebody to love her in the right way,” he sings in a sweet falsetto. Two final videos include footage of him at the piano and provide another glimpse at his creative process.
This is the first taste of new music since Zayn unleashed the Sia-assisted “Dusk Till Dawn” in September. Buoyed by a dramatic video and a compelling production, the track soared into the upper half of the Billboard Hot 100 and was a top 10 hit in the UK and across most of Europe. However, another buzz track or confirmation of a lead single would be welcome. It is coming up on two years since the release of his debut solo album, Mind of Mine, and his currently untitled sophomore LP is one of the most anticipated of 2018.
Last year, the “Pillowtalk” crooner opened up about the process behind recording his new album in a series of interviews. In the pages of VMAN he explained that the sonic direction would be a continuation of his debut LP, but that his writing skills have markedly improved over the last two years. He also revealed that he had reunited with Malay who works extensively with Frank Ocean. A chat with Fader alluded to a release date in the final months of 2017, and Zayn also teased plans to tour with the new release. Finally, in Billboard he explained the delay and promised to be nearing completion. “I think I’m like 90 percent of the way there,” he said around the release of “Dusk Till Dawn.” It is possible that the snippets we are hearing is the first taste of a new single, but we will have to wait and see. Zayn Malik is shaping up to be one of music’s most photographed stars. The fashionable crooner covered several magazines this summer. He delivered a couture spread for VMAN, a gender-bending shoot for Vogue and a grungy set within the pages of Clash. Today (November 2), he is continuing his streak with a smoldering new cover on Billboard.
The “Dusk Till Dawn” hitmaker is all sorts of chic as he broods on the front of the magazine’s latest issue. Dressed in a long plaid jacket he reclines on a luxurious sofa. The remaining photos follow a similarly relaxed aesthetic as he poses alongside some jewel-toned balloons, builds a card castle and sits in an empty cafe.
In an accompanying interview, the 24-year-old discussed his forthcoming sophomore LP. Although it was originally expected in September, Zayn has extended deadlines and is anticipating to drop the project in the first quarter of 2018. “I think I’m like 90 percent of the way there,” he had promised in September; however, since then he and his label are remaining tight lipped on any big reveals.
He said that the project would explore two distinct directions. Similar to 2016’s Mind of Mine, rhythmic pop and a more downtempo sound will define the project. He has continued to work with Frank Ocean’s frequent collaborator Malay and has teamed up with industry experts including Timbaland and Rob Cavallo. He is also working with a mysterious “unknown” that hails from Brazil.
The “Pillowtalk” crooner’s parents have been weighing in on the release as well. Zayn explained he has played the music for them, and they have very differing opinions. His dad prefers “the more meaningful ones,” while his mom is more of a dance commander. She “likes anything that’s clubby and upbeat,” he said, adding that she prefers his “proper ratchet songs.”
Although in the past anxiety has stopped the former One Direction bandmate from touring, he said he has been working to provide more balance to his life. “I’m taking things at my own pace, eating well, not going too crazy,” he explained. Although he had cancelled plans to hit the road with his debut album last year, he revealed he does intend to tour after his latest drops.
Intense anxiety played a part in the cancelled plans, but he was also struggling to translate his aesthetic to the stage. A session with Cavallo helped offer some guidance. The producer showed Zayn how a band could bring one of their songs to the next level, and it proved to be groundbreaking. “It definitely helped identify in my own mind where I want to be as an entertainer.”
The interview also touched on Zayn’s basically non-existent relationship with his former bandmates. “Our relationships have definitely changed since we were in a band together, but I think that’s just life,” he said. On the other hand, his comments about working with Taylor Swift on “I Don’t Want To Live Forever” were a bit more revealing. “I worked with her because I felt she was the right artist for the song.”
The interview ended with the promise of a sample of new music, but Zayn disappeared after going to get the tracks from his management. Guess he wants us all to wait until the project drops. Check out the rest of the feature here.

Zayn Malik has been crafting his sophomore album for the better part of a year, and he’s ready to share a first glimpse of what he has been working on in the studio. Today (September 1), the 24-year-old revealed that he is preparing to unleash a new single, and it is a collaboration with songwriting powerhouse Sia. The track is called “Dusk Till Dawn” and is set for release on September 7. He announced the song on Instagram, sharing what appears to be a poster promoting the accompanying visual. It is set to feature an appearance from Girls actress Jemima Kirke and will be directed by Marc Webb.
The former boy bander is no stranger to working with superstar collaborators. In the last year he has worked with both Taylor Swift on “I Don’t Want To Live Forever” and with PARTYNEXTDOOR on “Still Got Time.” The former became a staple on radio in the first quarter of 2017 and just missed the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100. At last week’s VMAs, he and Taylor picked up a Moon Person for Best Collaboration for the release. The UK crooner has also alluded to some additional collabs on his forthcoming album.
In an interview with VMAN, he said that the LP would incorporate more hip-hop elements, and it is rumored that Nicki Minaj may hop on a track. The album has him returning to the studio with Frank Ocean’s producer Malay, and it sounds like he is crafting a fitting followup to Mind of Mine. Check out the official announcement below.

Zayn Malik is serving stylish looks and a pensive stare on the cover of VMANMagazine. After a grungy shoot for Clash and a “gender-bending” appearance with his supermodel girlfriend Gigi Hadid on Vogue earlier this summer, this is easily the most high fashion appearance he’s delivered in months. In the pages of the magazine, the Brit smolders in a variety of neutral looks, showcasing oversized jackets paired with sleek streetwear. In the accompanying interview, he talked about his personal growth between projects while hinting at the direction his sound will take on an upcoming LP tentatively dropping later this year.
The former boy bander is hard at work on the follow up to his 2016 debut Mind of Mine, which yielded his first chart topping single “Pillowtalk” and offered him the freedom to explore new sonic directions after years working with One Direction. Though the release was heralded as a sexual awakening and drew sonic comparisons to The Weeknd, for Zayn the album represented his first time truly taking control of a project. Recognizing the album as a learning process, he explained that it helped him grow artistically and personally. “I think it was a natural growth as a human being and as a person. I feel like I’m still growing every day, as everybody is. I don’t know everything and I’m willing to learn, so I believe everything is a natural progression.”
The new project is set to follow a similar path as his debut, though he feels that his skills as a writer have developed dramatically between the two projects. The 24-year-old is back at work with Malay, who produced multiple cuts on Mind of Mine and is the mastermind behind Frank Ocean’s moody R&B sound. He’s optimistic about their projects together, and said that it’s some of his best work to date. “I feel like they’re real songs. And I don’t mean to say that to discredit the songs that are out on the charts at the moment. I just feel like there’s something really classic about some of the music that we’ve done together, and for that reason, I’m really proud of some of the songs that are going to come out. I feel like it really shows me as a songwriter and a vocalist.”
Sonically, the currently untitled album will revisit the downtempo pop and R&B he has previously explored, but it may also incorporate more hip hop elements. He alluded to a series of mysterious collaborations that imply that a handful of rappers may be featured on the album. Though there has been no confirmation, everyone from Nicki Minaj to PARTYNEXTDOOR are rumored to have contributed a verse or two. While he’s exploring new territories, one area that he will continue to pull inspiration from is his roots. On his debut, he sang in Urdu, his Pakistani father’s language, on a track, and he said he has plans to continue interpolating the influences into his upcoming releases.

After not talking for more than a year, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson have buried the hatchet! Louis’ mom’s dying request was for him to reunite with his former bandmate, and now, her wish has come true.
Louis Tomlinson, 25, and the rest of One Direction didn’t take too kindly to Zayn Malik, 24, leaving the band in March 2015. After his exit, Zayn distanced himself from the other guys, and even months later, he admitted he didn’t talk to any of them, except Liam Payne, occasionally. Now, though, he can go back to counting Louis as one of his friends…and it’s all thanks to his mom, Johannah Deakin, who passed away in December. Louis previously revealed that before Johannah died, she asked him to make things right with Zayn, and now, he’s confirmed that he went ahead and fulfilled her dying request.
“We got back in touch with each other and kind of cleared the air and talked everything through,” the “Back To You” singer said on Andy Cohen Live. “So we’re mates again, I suppose. Like anything like that, it takes time. But it was nice that we had an opportunity to clear the air and be adults about it.” Johannah tragically died at the age of 43 after suffering from leukemia, but she made sure to leave her oldest son with great advice and even greater strength. Before her passing, Johannah also insisted that Louis not cancel his solo debut performance on The X-Factor, and even though it went down just three days after her death, he bravely took the stage with Steve Aoki and put on an incredible show.
It doesn’t seem like Louis and Zayn talk all the time now that they’ve cleared the air, but it’s good to know they’re on good terms once again! After all, they were always very close during the 1D days, and Louis previously admitted they got along so well because they could always “break the rules” together. They’re BACK, you guys!

Buuuurn! Perrie Edwards served the nastiest diss to Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik in concert, cheekily switching the lyrics to her hit song, ‘Shout Out To My Ex.’ The best part? It’s all caught on camera.
Perrie Edwards 1. Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik 0. The Little Mix singer might look innocent, but the sharp claws came out during her weekend concert with the girl group. In the middle of her performance, Perrie switched the lyrics to “Shout Out To My Ex” to take a dig at the “Pillowtalk” crooner and his model girlfriend. Instead of the usual verse “hope she ain’t faking it like I did,” the blonde beauty sang, “hope she ain’t faking like Hadid.” OH NO SHE DIDN’T! Perrie’s new lyrics got such a strong reaction from her bandmates that they all started cracking up on stage. Even one of their backup dancers heard it and giggled! Definitely not subtle. Watch it all unravel below.
As you may already know, this isn’t the first time that the “Power” songstressdissed Zayn so publicly. Back in January, when Little Mix released their music video for “Touch,” fans payed special attention to the lyrics and noticed something quite interesting. “I feel like for the first time I am not faking,” she sings while grinding up on hot dudes (again with the faking!) Could that be her way of saying that the former One Direction hunk wasn’t good in bed?
Then, in the song “F.U,” Perrie seemingly suggests that Zayn kissed another woman at some point in their relationship. Yikes! Generally speaking, Perrie and Zayn have tried to avoid face-to-face communication as much as possible. They thankfully dodged each other at the 2017 BRIT Awards, and when his self-titled tell-all book came out, she ignored it and never bothered to even open it. It was probably for the best.
