The Chainsmokers Unite With Drew Love On New Single “Somebody

0

The Chainsmokers are hitting their stride with the release of their Drew Love-assisted new single, “Somebody.” Arriving today (April 20), it is the pair’s strongest release in 2018 and boasts one of their most restrained productions to date. Although Alex Pall and Drew Taggart have helmed club-ready numbers and are tinkering with an alt-rock edge recently, their latest is a more introspective moment. On it, Love and Taggart trade off vocals. Singing about their desire to make a name for themselves, it is a refreshingly honest moment. “In a town full of fancy cars and crowded bars and supermodels, looks exactly the way it did inside my head when I dreamed about it,” Love sings in a sweet falsetto on the chorus.

However, he realizes he needs more than physical possessions. “All the things I could live without. I need it now, cause they’re all around me. Only thing that I can’t afford is to lose myself tryna be somebody.” Taggart comes in on the verses, and his voice effortlessly compliments their featured vocalist as he delivers a cautionary tale. “You should’ve known better than to listen to your heart again,” he warns. The production twinkles over the soundscape. Of course, the duo included a bass-heavy drop, and it adds an unexpected level of dimension to the mournful keys and atmospheric synths.

“Somebody” will join the previously released “Sick Boy,” “You Owe Me” and “Everybody Hates Me” on the pair’s forthcoming sophomore album. Recently they opened up to Billboard about plans to gradually release the project by unveiling one song from the LP every month through 2018. The schedule draws parallels to how they began their rebrand with new music every month in 2015 and could revolutionize how albums are rolled out in a digital age. Hopefully they touch on a track as transformative as “Roses” or “Don’t Let Me Down” in the process. As it stands, their latest manages to bottle some of the wistful vibes that make their content so relatable. With any luck it will find some love on the charts. Give the track a spin (and revisit their other new content) below!

The Chainsmokers Go Full Psycho In Their “Everybody Hates Me” Video

0

The Chainsmokers rolled out a video in support of their latest single, “Everybody Hates Me,” and it is a neon-drenched extravaganza. Directed by Rory Kramer, it adds new depth to the song’s moody, semi-biographical lyrics which see Alex Pall and Drew Taggart struggling to come to terms with their fame. Released today (April 2), the video highlights how separate they feel from reality. Opening with them driving in an open-top Jeep, they race through a tunnel while Drew sings the lyrics in the passenger seat.

In another scene, they reach a party where Alex wanders through a haunting group of party-goers while his partner stands underwater in a pool. Both scenes highlight the loneliness and division they feel from society. Meanwhile, they and a full band are seen performing in an open warehouse. As the track reaches its pinnacle, they douse a car in gasoline and burn it down while their performance space also ignites in flames.

Striking and moody, the “Everybody Hates Me” video offers some insight into how the pair are dealing with stardom. The song joins the previously released “Sick Boy” and “You Owe Me” on their new album. Last month they opened up to Billboard about plans to gradually release the project by unveiling one song from the LP every month through 2018.

The release schedule draws parallels to how they began their rebrand with new music every month in 2015 and could revolutionize how albums are rolled out in a digital age. So far, they have not quite managed to recapture the magic of “Roses,” “Don’t Let Me Down” or “Paris” this year, but every release is a step in the right direction. The duo also recently teamed up with Apple Music to unveil a docu-series called The Chainsmokers – Memories, which can be viewed here. Give the video a view up top!

The Chainsmokers Host A Bloody Dinner Party In Their “You Owe Me” Video

0

You do not want to be on the guest list for a party at The Chainsmokers’ house as evidenced by their “You Owe Me” video. Alex Pall and Drew Taggart rolled out the Rory Kramer-directed visual for their newest single this morning (February 16), and it is a bloody affair. In it, the pair go through the motions to prepare for a seemingly innocuous dinner party. They take out the trash, straighten up their (gorgeous) house and enjoy a Bloody Mary while working in the kitchen before their guests arrive. However, things get a little violent when everyone sits down at the dinner table. It turns out the duo are vampires, and they are ready to feast on their friends.

Guess those Bloody Mary’s were just an appetizer for the main event. After the pair finish their meal they tidy up the house, and it is (presumably) time to set the next trap. Serving kitschy drama and a dark brand of comedy, it is easy to imagine the video going viral. If it does, it will definitely give the single a well-deserved push up the charts. The song is off to a slow start on the US iTunes’ chart after dropping at midnight. At the time of publication, it is sitting around the middle of the top 200. But some promo could help it soar higher.

“You Owe Me” is a step in the right direction after opening 2018 with “Sick Boy.” The dance/rock production lacked the magic of their earlier releases and felt a little gratuitous when it dropped last month. Their latest is not as instant as “Don’t Let Me Down” or as whimsical as “Roses,” but it capitalizes on their ability to deliver a strong production and relatable lyrics. As we move further into the year, they are sure to continue improving on their craft and may just end up with another timeless hit on their hands. Check out the dramatic video up top!

The Chainsmokers Share A Snippet Of New Single “You Owe Me”

0

The Chainsmokers took some time off toward the end of 2017, but they are preparing for big things this year. The self-identifying troublemakers with hearts of gold kicked off 2018 with a call to action on their single, “Sick Boy” to mixed reviews. Although well-intentioned, the release felt a little gratuitous. It was not as instant as their whimsical “Paris” nor as endearing as “Don’t Let Me Down,” and that is evident based on how it has performed on the charts. After peaking in the lower half of the Billboard Hot 100, it is close to dropping off entirely this week. To combat that, Alex Pall and Drew Taggart are preparing to roll out a new single, “You Owe Me” tomorrow (February 16).

The pair hopped on social media on Valentine’s Day to share the single cover along with a message for single fans during the lovers’ holiday. “If you’re lonely, don’t you think you’re on your own,” they wrote. Today, (February 15) they shared a snippet of the song ahead of its release, and it sounds like another youthful anthem that could become a hit. “You don’t know me. Don’t you think that I’d get lonely. It gets dark inside my head, check my pulse. And if I’m dead you owe me,” Taggart croons over somber synths. “You Owe Me” sounds like it could be a return to the sound the pair popularized over the last two years. We won’t know for sure until tomorrow, but with any luck they will be back on their game and ready for another impressive run on the charts. Check out the cover and listen to a snippet of the track below!

The Chainsmokers’ “Sick Boy” Is A Lot To Process

0

I try to give The Chainsmokers the benefit of the doubt because they are an easy target and have delivered some of the better dance-pop anthems of recent years (“Don’t Let Me Down” and “Paris”), but it’s hard to shake the feeling that “Sick Boy” is not very good. The duo, which has bounced from one PR nightmare to the next, make a statement about America’s skewered priorities on their new single, but it comes across as self-pitying instead of defiant or damning.

“I live in a prison that I build myself, it is my religion,” Drew Taggart sings over a pompous dance/rock production. “And they say that I am the sick boy — easy to say when you don’t take the risk, boy.” It just gets weirder from there. “Welcome to the narcissism, we’re united under our indifference.” I guess that’s a fair comment on America’s current inability to give a fuck, but what’s with the whiny bridge? “Feed yourself with my life’s work, how many likes is my life worth?” Give me a break. Also, haven’t they already covered this on “Honest”?

Kudos to guys for trying to reinvent themselves, but I’d take “#Selfie” over this any day. Watch the surprisingly good video up top. (They spent the money because the special effects look great).

If you’re having an ugly sweater party we would love an invite

K-Pop Kings BTS Team Up With The Chainsmokers For “Best Of Me”

0

Well, this is a little awkward. BTS officially announced their collaboration with The Chainsmokers on the same day that the EDM duo came under fire for making an offensive joke about Asians. (In case you missed the drama, Alex Pall expressed concerns for the safety of his dog while visiting China). The “Closer” hitmakers have issued an apology and the Kings of K-Pop are obviously willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Their collaboration is called “Best Of Me” and it features on the group’s new LP, Love Yourself.

The track was written by Chainsmokers member Drew Taggart and BTS rappers Rap MonsterSuga and J-Hope. “Best Of Me” is sure to be one of the most talked-about songs on the album, which is already shaping up to be a blockbuster. According to Billboard, there have already been more than 1.05 million pre-orders. If American fans contribute as little as five percent to that total, it would still be enough to guarantee a top 10 debut on the Billboard 200. A feat that would be a first for a K-Pop act and cement BTS’ status as global superstars.

The album drops September 18 and comes in four different formats L, O, V and E. Watch their latest promo video called “Serendipity” below.

The Chainsmokers Debut “Young” Lyric Video

0

The Chainsmokers take a trip down memory lane and revisit childhood memories in the lyric video for “Young.” EDM’s top duo recently announced that they are releasing the heartfelt “Honest” as their next official single, but it seems they have another track off their debut LP to promote first. “Don’t worry, my love, we’re learning to love, but it’s hard when you’re young,” Drew Taggart croons over the alt-influenced productions of Alex Pall.

The visual makes use of baby photos and footage from earlier performances contrasted with moments captured on their recently completed Memories Do Not Open Tour. As the track fades out, a collage of the photos transforms into a black and white photo of the pair looking back on their pasts. The lyric video was a collaboration with filmmaker and photographer Rory Kramer, who sourced the archived footage and photos from Alex and Drew’s family and friends.

They thanked him for his work on the project in a series of tweets. The Chainsmokers also reflected on how far they’ve come in their career and took the opportunity to thank anyone involved in their development. “We can’t watch this video and not help but think how grateful we are for our lives and everyone who has helped steer us along this journey,” Alex and Drew said. Check out the nostalgia-inducing video below and see if you can identify who is who in some embarrassing childhood pics.

The Chainsmokers Bare Their Hearts On “Honest” New Single

0

The Chainsmokers are currently sitting pretty in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 with “Something Just Like This,” but they’re already preparing to unleash another single from their debut LP. They are going with heartfelt electro-ballad “Honest,” which is being sent to radio by July 11. In the vein of promo single “The One,” the pair’s latest release is an introspective track that reflects on the impact that their newfound fame has had on the relationships they leave behind while on the road. Although there’s a spoken intro from U2 frontman Bono, this is one of the duo’s first singles that doesn’t boast a featured vocalist. Instead, Drew Taggart‘s voice carries the earnest lyrics.

“It’s 5 a.m. and I’m on the radio, I’m supposed to call you, but I don’t know what to say at all,” Drew sings to a lover while thoughts of another girl dance through his mind. He boldly bares his fears and temptations over mid-tempo production, lush with reverberating synths. It’s an unexpected move given that they have been pushing the alt-pop leaning “Break Up Every Night” with a notable performance on SNL. It looks like they are trying to prove that they can pull off a hit on their own. Here’s to hoping the risk pays off. Listen to “Honest” below.

#HotCollaboration: The Chainsmokers & Coldplay

0

Relax, it’s ok! I know a lot of fans feared the worst when they heard Coldplay had joined forces with The Chainsmokers, but “Something Just Like This” works. And it’s really not that surprising. Drew and Alex’s rise to the top of EDM has been fueled by emo-bangers like “Closer” and “All We Know,” while Chris Martin & Co. have been playing with our emotions since the arrival of Parachutes way back in 2000.

The Chainsmokers & Coldplay Team Up For New Single “Something Just Like This”

It’s also not the band’s first dalliance with dance. After all, Avicii produced “A Sky Full Of Stars” and that’s now viewed as something of a late classic.

“She said, ‘Where you want to go? How much you want to risk?’ I’m not looking for somebody with some superhuman gift, some superhero, some fairytale bliss,” Chris croons over shimmery synths. “Just something I can turn to, somebody I can kiss. I want something just like this.” It’s all very polite and romantic until The Chainsmokers pull the trigger with a “Roses”-like drop. On the first listen, I don’t love it as much as “Paris” or “Don’t Let Me Down,” but everyone escapes with their dignity intact. Give it a spin below.
