Normani’s solo career is off to a flying start. The former Fifth Harmony diva already has a hit on the Billboard Hot 100 courtesy of Khalid collaboration, “Love Lies,” and now inks a deal with Keep Cool/RCA Records. “[She] is a dynamic, multi-talented young woman with vibrant energy and a powerful spirit,” Keep Cool co-founder Tunji Balogun, who will also A&R Normani’s debut album, says in a press release. “We are extremely excited to welcome her into the RCA family and I’m honored to announce her as the first artist signed to Keep Cool.”

“We are all looking forward to watching Normani thrive and flourish as we create incredible music and unforgettable moments together.” That sentiment is shared by RCA chairman and CEO Pete Edge. “We are thrilled to welcome [her] as the first artist under the Keep Cool/RCA Records imprint,” he says. “Normani’s talent and charisma really sets her apart as a leading lady in the industry and I know she will bring that same energy and more to her solo career.” With that kind of support, there’s no stopping the budding superstar.

“I’m so incredibly grateful to be able to be in a place where I can explore myself as an artist and what I’m capable of,” Normani raves. “Never in a million years did I think I would be in this position in 2018. Everyone has been so supportive and patient, thank you so much to my fans for giving me the opportunity.” She also gave her former bandmates a shoutout. “I’m so thankful to my girls that we created this space among ourselves to explore and branch out creatively. Fifth Harmony has always been and will always be home.”

Check out Normani & Khalid’s “Love Lies,” which is said to reflect the direction of her solo output, below. The track has already racked up more than 150 million streams.

Normani Spreads Her Wings With Slinky Khalid Collaboration “Love Lies”

Normani Kordei’s solo career gets off to a flying start with “Love Lies,” a slinky collaboration with Khalid. Lifted from the Jack Antonoff-curated Love, Simon soundtrack, the dreamy mid-tempo anthem showcases her voice and hints at the R&B/pop direction of her side-project. “I’ve been so into your mystery, is it because of our history?” she coos in her opening verse, before joining the “Location” hitmaker on the chorus. “So baby tell me where your love lies, waste the day and spend the night underneath the sunrise.”

“Love Lies” has every chance of being a very big song, but Harmonizers have nothing to worry about. In an interview with Zane Lowe, Normani confirmed that Fifth Harmony is still her number one priority. “I think that we definitely proven to ourselves and the rest of the world that we’ve worked incredibly hard to get to the place where we’re able to really explore ourselves now,” she says of the group’s various solo projects. “And I think that it’s a space that we created amongst the four of us, that nobody else will probably understand.”

“It’s not easily understood but it’s something that we understand within each other and we’re confident women individually and also together but we do recognize that you know at the end of the day none of us would have these individual opportunities to explore ourselves or to show the world who we are, without each other… we’ve literally been through any and everything you could possibly imagine, good and bad,” the 21-year-old continues. “It’s us against the world and that’s together and apart. We’ll always have some place to call home which is Fifth Harmony.”

How far along is her solo project? “I’m in the beginning stages so maybe like 30 percent,” Normani reveals. Listen to the full interview here (Zane also spoke with Khalid) and check out the addictive bop below.

Khalid & Normani Kordei’s Collaboration Is Called “Love Lies”

0

Normani Kordei first revealed that she was working with Khalid via an Instagram post way back in July, 2017 and then opened up about the collaboration in several interviews. Well, the song finally has a title and a (vague) release date. “Love Lies” is featured on the soundtrack of gay romantic comedy Love, Simon, which drops March 16. It’s unclear if the track will be rolled out as a single before then or be relegated to album track status. The soundtrack also includes new material Troye Sivan and a duet between Jack Antonoff & .

“I have recently been in the studio and it’s been such a spiritual experience, it is like a playground for any artist,” Normani said of her first solo outing in Kode magazine. She then opened up about working with Khalid. “We wanted to create something that our peers would fall in love with,” the 21-year-old reveals. “I listen to our song every day. Issa vibe. But the greatest part of it all is that were genuinely two friends that created something special that were so proud of.” I can’t wait to hear what they come up with.

Issa school day.

Normani Kordei Is Working On Solo Songs With Stargate

Normani Kordei signed a solo management deal in late October and wasted no time getting in the studio on her own. The Fifth Harmony diva is cooking up hits with Norwegian producers Stargate, who are responsible for some of the biggest songs of the last 15 years including Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable” and Rihanna’s “Only Girl (In The World).” This year alone they have crafted radio-conquering anthems for Sam SmithJulia Michaels and Major Lazer as well as dropping one of their own — a collaboration with Pink & Sia called “Waterfall.”

“For me, music for the last five years has been an evolution and it will continue to be as I hone into what it is that I hope to create,” Normani says of her budding solo career in Kode magazine. “I have recently been in the studio and it’s been such a spiritual experience, it is like a playground for any artist.” She also opened up about her rumored collaboration with Khalid. “We wanted to create something that our peers would fall in love with,” she reveals. “I listen to our song every day. Issa vibe. But the greatest part of it all is that were genuinely two friends that created something special that were so proud of.”

Normani Kordei Poses For «Kode», Opens Up About Solo Career

0

It’s been a big week for Normani Kordei. The Fifth Harmony singer caught everyone’s attention by signing a solo management deal on Monday (October 23) and now lands on the cover of Kode. The 21-year-old addresses her solo prospects in the accompanying interview. “For me, music for the last five years has been an evolution and it will continue to be as I hone into what it is that I hope to create,” she says. “I have recently been in the studio and it’s been such a spiritual experience, it is like a playground for any artist.”

The “Down” diva is more specific about her rumored collaboration with Khalid. “[We] have been wanting to work together for some time,” Normani reveals. “We wanted to create something that our peers would fall in love with. I remember him telling me ‘I want this to be my favorite record, if I were listening, I want it to be something I vibe with that’s just dope,’ which is something I relate to because I listen to our song every day. Issa vibe. But the greatest part of it all is that were genuinely two friends that created something special that were so proud of.”

Not that she’s turning her back on Fifth Harmony. Normani exudes pride at the girl group’s new album. “I would say my most significant highlight from this era would definitely have to be the four of us being able to have freedom for first time as artists and musicians,” she begins. “We are heavily involved — more than ever before. We co-wrote more than half of our self-titled album, and the records that we did not write, we still had a great influence on. It’s a body of work that people can definitely hear is truly from our hearts. We have fallen in love with music all over again.” Read the full interview here.

Normani Kordei Signs Management Deal: Solo Music Is Coming

0

Normani Kordei has signed a solo management deal. “Normani is an incredibly special artist and I am excited to work with her,” Brandon Silverstein of with S10 Entertainment & Media told Billboard. “I found a great partner in Brandon and S10,” the Fifth Harmony diva added. “We are going to make magic together.” It’s not that surprising. All members of the group are working on solo side-projects and the 21-year-old has been in the studio cooking up something with Khalid.

However, you can’t help but think it’s only a matter of time before another member jumps ship — signaling the end of Fifth Harmony. Particularly, if they can’t turn this era around and land a sizable hit. Normani (as she will be known in her solo adventures) has been building her profile with a memorable run on Dancing With The Stars and impressive cover versions. It will be interesting to see if her first solo offering is as well-received as Lauren Jauregui’s feature on Halsey’s “Strangers,” for example. My guess is it will be.
