Maroon 5 unveiled the video for their new single “Memories” on Tuesday (Oct. 8).

The minimalist clip opens on an extreme close-up of frontman Adam Levine, who delivers the song’s nostalgic lyrics as the camera slowly pans out. “Here’s to the ones that we got/ Cheers to the wish that you’re here, but you’re not/ ‘Cause the drinks bring back all the memories/ Of everything we’ve been through,” he croons as shadows move across his bearded face.

The video is dedicated to Jordan Feldstein, the band’s late manager who died unexpectedly in December 2017 following a pulmonary embolism. As the visual ends, the screen fades to black, the words “For Jordi” appear scrawled in sweet, handwritten font.

“Memories” serves as the band’s first new release since their chart-topping hit “Girls Like You” (feat. Cardi B), which spent seven weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the fall of 2018. Watch the video below.

Adam Levine Plays With Snapchat Filters In Maroon 5’s “Wait” Video

0

Maroon 5 is rolling out “Wait” as the second single from Red Pill Blues (“Don’t Wanna Know” and “Cold” were relegated to bonus track status) and it’s a wise choice. After catering to the upbeat-pop crowd with “What Lovers Do,” the band’s latest is a little more introspective, but just as catchy. “You say I’m just another bad guy, you say I’ve done a lot of things I can’t undo,” Adam Levine sings on the bridge. “Before you tell me for the last time… wait, can you turn around?”

The video also represents something of a change of pace from the special effects-laden “What Lovers Do” visual. Maroon 5 keeps it very simple this time around. In fact, they filmed the entire thing on an iPhone. It’s just the band’s photogenic frontman playing around with Snapchat filters, which turns out to be compelling. “Wait” was co-written by Adam, John RyanJ Kash and Ammar Malik. It’s already the most-added song on pop radio with two high-profile remixes (Chromeo and A Boogie wit da Hoodie) arriving in the next couple of weeks. Watch up top.

Maroon 5 & A$AP Rocky Reflect On Past Love On “Whiskey”

0

Maroon 5’s sixth LP, Red Pill Blues, is shaping up to be the band’s most eclectic offering to date. There’s a little pure-pop courtesy of rising hit “What Lovers Do,” a little mid-tempo introspection via the Julia Michaels-assisted “Help Me Out” and a moment of quiet reflection on “Whiskey.” The band’s latest buzz track finds Adam Levine and A$AP Rocky reflecting on the one that got away. “Would’ve left this world behind, just to wake up by your side every mornin’,” the frontman croons. “I would’ve sold my soul for a little more time.”

Rocky is similarly bummed. “I ain’t like the other Cognacs or type of cat that’d never call back,” he raps. “Or lose contact when you runnin’ out of rum and you make a run.” They share their misery on the chorus. “I told her she could have my jacket, wrapped it tight around her shoulders,” the guys remember. “And I was so young ’til she kissed me, like a whiskey, like a whiskey.” Red Pill Blues drops November 3. Listen to the latest buzz track below.
