Disclosure, Kehlani and Sid Drop a ‘Birthday’ Gift

With just two days before Disclosure drops their third LP, Energy, the duo is gifting the world another single, «Birthday.»

The track is a collaboration with Kehlani and Sid; the UK duo dropped into Los Angeles (pre-quarantine) to work with them. “Being in L.A. was a new one for us,” says Disclosure’s Guy Howard recently told Billboard. “We’re very London.”

The song is a smooth and mellow R&B influenced jam, on which scintillating percussion serves as the base for sultry lyrics that ponder whether or not it’s okay to call your ex on their birthday.

“Syd and I were going through a similar thing at the time,» Howard Lawrence says in a statement, «trying to work out if it was cool to call your ex to say hi or is it too awkward/mean to do so out of the blue?”

“It’s the oldest song on the album by far so has definitely stood the test of time and deservedly made the cut” adds Guy. “And the addition of Kehlani just took it to the next level and turned into a fire duet.”

Kehlani Drops a Sticky Sweet Video for ‘Honey’: Watch

Just when Kehlani’s year couldn’t get any sweeter, the singer released a sugary clip for her latest single “Honey.”

The video shows Kehlani in long bohemian tresses behind a warm-toned grainy filter enjoying an afternoon in nature giggling with a lover. Coinciding with the song’s title, visuals of dripping honey and bees also flash across the screen. It’s nostalgic and romantic, and Kehlani is all smiles.

This release comes just one week after the singer-songwriter performed an acoustic version of the song at Billboard’s Women in Music, where she accepted her Rule Breaker award.

Upon receiving the honor, she noted, “Being acknowledged for breaking rules in a positive light is so important to me. My entire career, I’ve been very outspoken … I just have to speak up. It hits me in the gut.”

Calvin Harris, Kehlani & Lil Yachty’s Striking “Faking It” Video

“Faking It” is the fifth single from Calvin Harris’ Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 by my count. Of those, only “Slide”and “Feels” (a massive hit everywhere except the US) have found a wide audience. That could change with his moody collaboration with Kehlani and Lil Yachty. The track brings out the best in all of them with the R&B diva serving relatable lyrics over one of the Scot’s most finely-tuned productions. “And I say I’m okay, but I guess I’m a liar,” she sings. “You say you’re okay, but I saw that you liked it.”

“Why you, why you, why you checking if you’re over it? Why you, why you say ‘let go’ if you’re still holding it? Just a little bit better at faking it than me, baby.” The visual arrived last night (October 23) and it tapes into the song’s gloomy, late-night vibe. Calvin steps aside to let Kehlani and Yachty shine and they do their thing in elaborate set-ups that include falling snow and ice sculptures. He does, however, appear towards the end to play a little piano. Watch the striking video up top.
