Billie Eilish Says She’s Working on a New Album, Releasing Her Documentary This Year: ‘I’m Terrified’

Billie Eilish won’t be releasing a new album in 2020, but her sophomore full-length is in the works.

The singer was asked whether the album was coming this year on the red carpet at iHeartRadio’s ALTer EGO concert on Saturday (Jan. 18), and she clarified her plans.

«This year, no, but I will be making it this year,» Eilish said. «But next few years? It’s coming. When it’s made. It’s not made yet.»

Eilish, who joined Coldplay, the Black Keys, Blink-182 and more on the lineup at the Forum near Los Angeles, also spoke about her upcoming documentary, offering a «guess» that the film will make its debut in 2020 — although the idea has her feeling nervous.

«I’ve seen no part of it,» she explained. «I’m terrified. I’m freaked out. They’ve been filming since like July of 2018 … Who has that much footage of them that they’ve never seen? I’m terrified.»

In the meantime, she’s got a Grammys performance coming up very soon, but she warns that she won’t be arranging anything over-the-top for the big night.

«Don’t get your hopes up,» Eilish joked. «I mean, it’ll be me, but it’s not that much. It’s just me … I’m excited.»

Billie Eilish Gets Burned in Provocative ‘Xanny’ Video: Watch

Billie Eilish unveiled the stark visual for her latest single «Xanny» on Thursday (Dec. 5), making her directorial debut in the process.

The clip starts out normal enough, with the 17-year-old superstar delivering the first verse of the song while wearing a decidedly demure cream-colored turtleneck and and pants, her signature green roots traded out for plain brown locks.

However, the calming aesthetic of the video takes a startling turn once the track’s wobbling, off-kilter chorus kicks in. «I’m in their secondhand smoke/ Still just drinking canned Coke/ I don’t need a xanny to feel better,» Eilish croons as a hand creeps on screen to burn her face with a lit cigarette.

By video’s end, the teen wunderkind’s face is covered in tiny, dark burns delivered by multiple hands and as the lyrics’ proverbial secondhand smoke fills the room, Eilish rises from her padded bench, dusting herself off and wandering out of the frame after forlornly muttering the song’s closing lines.

On Wednesday (Nov. 27), Billie Eilish revealed the inspiration behind her latest track, «Everything I Wanted» in a new video by Beats by Dre.

«It’s called ‘Everything I Wanted’ but we called it ‘Nightmare’ for a while,» the pop star dishes in the clip as her brother/collaborator Finneas O’Connell builds the track’s instrumentation on a keyboard. «Finneas came up with, ‘As long as I’m here, no one can hurt you.’ We decided to make it about our relationship and how we help each other and, like, deal with things together. It just completely, like, paved the way for the rest of the song.»

The video also features an adorable cameo from the siblings’ mom, Maggie Baird, who tears up as her superstar daughter plays her the finished track for the first time while gathered around the family’s kitchen table.
