Will Sia Dominate the 2017 Oscars?

0

bb25-topline-sia-portrait-2016-billboard-1548

Though the fourth quarter is considered the most fertile for potential Oscar releases, there already is a “luxury of riches” — as one Academy Awards voter puts it — when it comes to best original song prospects.

Leading the contender charge for the Feb. 26 ceremony is Sia, who has co-written three strong potential entries, including “Unforgettable“ from Pixar’s Finding Dory and “Try Everything” from Disney’s Zootopia. She also will have another song — her fourth — eligible from Lion, which opens Nov. 25.

“Sia could have a category of her own,” says new Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences member-at-large Mike Knobloch, president of film music and publishing for Universal Pictures, who worked with the Australian artist on 50 Shades of Grey. “There’s something amazing and cinematic about her music.”

Surveying movies that have opened theatrically by Sept. 30, hopefuls include songs from Sing Street, Audrie and Daisy, Jim: The James Foley Story, Storks, Indignation, Queen of Katwe and Deepwater Horizon. And never discount Alan Menken, who has the most Oscars of any living person — he has a good shot with “The Great Beyond” from Sausage Party.

Further down the calendar, likely nominees include multiple songs from Damien Chazelle’s musical La La Land and Disney’s Moana featuring songs written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, as well as Sing’s “Faith,” Stevie Wonder’s first new song for a film since 1991’s Jungle FeverHidden Figures’ “I See a Victory” by Pharrell Williams, whose “Happy” from Despicable Me 2 was a 2014 Oscar nominee; and Trolls, which includes Justin Timberlake’s equally irresistible “Can’t Stop the Feeling!,” co-written with Max Martin and Shellback.

Says songwriter and first-time voter Taura Stinson, whose “Champions” from Hands of Stone, co-written with Usher, Ruben Blades and Raphael Saadiq, is also a contender: “I’m looking for story in song, the melody and how it fits into the script. I’m not going to be wooed by radio play. I’m a big fan of, ‘Does it have its rightful place?’”

Top 5 Contenders, For Now:

“Try Everything,” Zootopia (songwriters: Sia Furler, Tor Hermansen, Mikkel Eriksen)

“Go Now,” Sing Street (John Carney, Adam Levine)

“The Great Beyond,” Sausage Party (Alan Menken, Glenn Slater)

“City of Stars,” La La Land (Justin Hurwitz, Benj Pasek, Justin Paul)

“We Know the Way,” Moana (Mank Mancina, Opetaia Foa’i, Lin-Manuel Miranda)

In a new sit-down interview with Dan Wootton of ITV’s Lorraine, Britney Spears discussed her nervousness about releasing new music, her Las Vegas residency and why it’s OK to be single in your 30s.

“I definitely had the jitters,” Spears said about the release of her latest album, Glory. She said she had worked on the record for two and a half years and ended up pleased with the result. «I worked with the most profound, amazing people and it was just really, really cool.»

She then said she preferred her 30s to her 20s. “You know who you really are.”

She also said she feels “very spoiled” because of how family-like the crew on her Las Vegas residency is because, “It’s like a party every night.”

The pop star also spoke about how she is in a good place being single in her 30s and that she plans to stay single for a while. “I am loving and learning myself every day and learning who I am.»

Zayn Malik has found himself in a hairy situation…or maybe we should say ahairless situation!Similar to his ex-bandmate Harry Styles, the former One Direction singer made headlines and sent fans into a frenzy of commentary on Thursday after debuting a major hair change on his Instagram: he shaved off his beard!Yes, after rocking lots of facial hair for quite some time, Zayn shared a selfie featuring a clean-shaven face with just a small patch of hair below his lower lip and a little bit of stubble on the rest of his face.

Though Gigi Hadid’s boyfriend didn’t caption the photo, he didn’t need to…fans did it for him: «Wow Gigi is lucky,» one fan commented, while another added, «WTF why does my baby look so damn sexy!»

Harry Styles, Hair

Fans have’t gone this wild over hair since Harry Styles chopped his locks off earlier this year.In May, the 1D member posted a photo of his hand holding his braided ponytail while giving a thumbs up. «Whoops,» he captioned the Instagram pic. «#Littleprincesstrust.»
The great chop was for charity, which excused anyone of getting too upset. «A little while back he had expressed an interest in supporting us,» Wendy Tarplee Morris, co-founder and manager of the Little Princess Trust, said on the U.K.’s This Morning. «Then all of a sudden he did it.» The trust collects donated hair to create wigs for children battling cancer.Despite the good cause, when we scrolled through the tweets attached to#RIPHarrysHair shortly after the news broke, people went to great lengths (pun intended) to tearfully bid adieu to his tresses.Luckily, it seems fans have taken a different approach toward Zayn’s change-up, welcoming the new, clean look with open arms!

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have been best friends for years, but they’re both vying for the attention of Tom Brady.

In a new video to promote a new Omaze charity campaign, Ben and Matt get into an argument during a video call about whom the New England Patriots player likes more. «For just $10 you and a friend can hang out with me and Tom Brady…and I guess also Matt will be there,» Ben says during the call.»And yes also me because I’m also friends with Tom Brady,» Matt snaps back.»Lesser friends,» Ben notes.

The A-list actors then go on to explain that you and a friend would grab some pizza, drink some beers and visit their favorite places in Boston with them and «the greatest quarterback who ever walked the earth.»

But the fight gets cut off when Tom texts Ben to tell him he’s going to be late. Jealous, a downtrodden Matt says, «I don’t have reception here.»Their argument only escalates from there, with both Matt and Ben listing reasons why is closer to them. Ben mentions the time Matt was caught «staring» at Tom’s chin, which Ben then compares to his own.»If your chin was anything like Tom’s that Batman movie of yours would’ve made about $4 billion because that’s the only recognizable part of you,» Matt snaps. «Tom is a superhero.»

Little do they know, however, that Tom dialed into the call and listened to their quarreling. Eventually Tom speaks up to break up their fight and actually tell viewers about the charity.

Watch the hilarious video to see how Tom «T-Bone» Brady reacts to their bickering and find out whom he actually likes more!

Ups!! Error!! si, por error dijo Armie Hammer el sexo del bebe que espera junto a Elizabeth Chambers.

Armie Hammer was unfiltered on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Thursday.

The actor, who stars in the drama Birth of a Nation, began by telling the story of how he celebrated his 30th birthday in August while he was shooting a movie on location in Australia. «We didn’t do a big thing. My wife was down there and we had our daughter down there and she was like, ‘Let’s just go to dinner and have a little date night, just the two of us.’ I was like, ‘This sounds really great. We’ll get a babysitter. Oh, I’d love a date night! This sounds great,'» he said. «We go out to dinner and we go out to this restaurant that we love—a little Indian restaurant down there—and they start taking us to the back of the restaurant. I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ We come around the corner, and it’s everybody. It’s everybody from the cast, everybody from the crew. She threw a huge surprise birthday party for me. It was fantastic!»

But in the moment, did the party disappoint Armie in any way? «I thought I was going to get laid,» he joked. «‘Now I’m with a bunch of strangers. What the hell? What is going on here?»»

«It was good fun,» Armie added. «Maybe too much fun. I don’t know.»

«We were at the restaurant for as long as they would let us, until they were literally like, ‘Get out of the restaurant!’ So we left and we went to a bar, and then we went to another bar, then we went to another bar. We made the mistake of walking up to the bar, and the bartender said, ‘What can I get you to drink?’ and we said, ‘We’ll take 30 shots, please.’ There was a group of us—like maybe 15 people. Two shots a person—it’s not too crazy. We go, ‘We’ll have 30 shots.’ They go, ‘Great. You’re kicked out of the bar.’ Literally, just like that!» the actor recalled. «We were like, ‘Forget you guys.’ We leave and we go to the next bar and they say, ‘What’ll you have to drink?’ And we say, ‘Well, those guys sucked. We’ll have 40 shots!’ Sure enough, they kicked us out of the bar, too…That’s the thing: We felt really sober. We were like, ‘We’re fine! What are you talking about? What do you mean you’re not going to give us a drink? We’re fine!'»Armie and co. didn’t want the night to end, though.

«We ended up convincing the director of the movie that we should all just go back to his house, and somehow he ended up going along with the idea,» Armie said. After arriving in the wee hours of the morning, «We’re going up to his apartment and some people wait outside, and drunk Armie is like, ‘No! We all stay together!’ So I grab everybody and pull them into the elevator. Everybody’s like sardines in that thing. The elevator starts moving and I think, ‘Wouldn’t it be really funny if I started jumping and freaked everybody out?’ And I’m not a small dude. My wife is pregnant and sober, surrounded by all drunk people at 4 in the morning, stuck in an elevator. And I just see the look on her face. She says, ‘I’m going to murder you,'» he toldJimmy Kimmel. «I was like, ‘You know what? I got this. Don’t even worry about it.’ I pry open the door. I’ m pulling on the wires. Looking back, it’s the dumbest thing in the world. But I pull on one wire and I hear ‘click!’ and I go, ‘That’s it!’ And the doors opened and we step out of the elevator and I was the hero—but no one appreciated the fact that I got us out of that elevator!»

Armie won’t have a chance to party once Baby No. 2 arrives «next year.»

Jimmy asked Armie if he knows the sex yet. «I do know,» he said. «You can find out now at nine weeks, which is really bizarre. They do a blood test. They test if there are hormones in there. They go, ‘Oh, you’ve got testosterone—so you’ve either got balls or you’re having a baby boy.'»

«They check to make sure it’s not balls, correct?» Jimmy joked.

«I checked in the process of making the baby,» Armie quipped.

Armie and Elizabeth Chambers Hammer‘s daughter, Harper Hammer, «loves» the idea of being a big sister. «I mean, she seems to love it now. If you go, ‘Where’s the baby?’, she’ll rub mama’s belly and kiss her stomach. It’s really cute,» Armie said. However, he said, Harper may not stay that sweet. «I think when the new baby comes out it’s going to be a serious adjustment period.»

Since becoming a father in late 2014, parenthood has been, by and large, a breeze. «I don’t know if our daughter’s easy or if we’ve just been winging it the right way, but we haven’t had too much of a plan and it’s all kind of gone all right,» the Lone Ranger actor admitted. «So, we’re just kind of going with it. I guess the only reason we’re all here is because raising babies works. I think people—especially new parents, at least I did—sort of underestimate the resilience of human survivalism. Like, this thing is going to survive. That’s the only reason it’s here.»

With a last name like Hammer, Armie has tons of baby names to choose form. «We’re thinking Jack,» he joked, telling Jimmy he could also call it «Michael Charles, and he can just go by M.C.»

«Are you really thinking about that?» Jimmy asked.

«I think I just gave away our baby name?» Armie said. «I’m in so much trouble!»

«It could be a girl named Michael,» Jimmy suggested. «There are occasionally girls named Michael—not Michael Charles—but it could definitely be a Michael.» But, upon further reflection, the late-night host broke the bad news to Armie: «Wow, you are in a lot of trouble.»

Armie knew he would be in the doghouse after the show. «I’m going to get several phone calls from several people about this,» he said. «I’m glad this is the only talk show with an open bar.»

Why Anna Kendrick’s Life Is Falling Apart After Finding Success

InStyle U.K.

Anna Kendrick has found phenomenal success as a movie star, but that has taken a toll on her everyday living as of late.Having worked on Trolls, The Accountant,Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates andThe Hollars all in the past year, Kendrick has had a busy 2016, which is why she tellsInStyle U.K.‘s November issue that her downtime has been relatively nonexistent. «My life has been falling apart for four years. I had some accidental time off, so I’ve been enjoying opening my mail, seeing my friends, sleeping in my own bed. I’m a champion sleeper,» she tells the magazine.

«Also, I organized my garage and it made me so happy that I felt like I was on drugs. I built industrial shelving, bought tubs from Ikea, put my Christmas decorations in clear containers so I can see them…

«I feel like I’m on drugs just talking about it now.» Even though she appeared in four movies in the past year, Kendrick is aware of the possibility of overexposure—in the media and on the red carpet. «You know, I’m trying to rein in my workaholism because I don’t think people really want six movies a year from me!» she adds.
All things considered, Kendrick considers herself fairly lucky because she continues to live a grounded life, that includes frequent trips to Ikea. The only difference now, however, is sometimes she tries to hide because of how uncomfortable she feels in public.

«My close friends are the same ones I had when I first moved to L.A., who were totally cool with me being some unemployed, aspiring actress. So you keep them,» she explains.

Anna Kendrick, InStyle U.K.

InStyle U.K.

«The only thing that bums me out about fame is when I notice a behavior I have that I wouldn’t have if I was in a different profession. Like when I went to Ikea to get the bins for my garage? I was cowering behind DIY shelving in a baseball cap as a family walked by. I don’t know if that’s cool, but it’s something I do.»Even though finds herself «cowering» in public, Kendrick admits that she has found some confidence as a result of turning 30—and all that success.

«There’s no such thing as a 30-year-old girl. Maybe a 28-year-old girl, but not 30. There’s a security in that, which is incredibly arbitrary and stupid,» she says. «But as someone who can be in a room with people who don’t take me seriously as often as I would like, it’s nice to be able to tell them: «I believe the term is ‘woman’ now.'»

Miley Cyrus and Idina Menzel Joke About Being Servants to Disney

Miley Cyrus, Idina Menzel, The Ellen DeGeneres Show

Michael Rozman / Warner Bros.

Miley Cyrus and Idina Menzel have at least one thing in common: Disney.Idina voiced Elsa in the megahit movie Frozen, which to this day continues to be a roaring success with the song «Let It Go.» But even Idina can admit that everyone, including her sonWalker Diggs, is over the Frozen fever that took the nation by storm. «I’m sorry, Disney, but [Walker] is sick of ‘Let It Go,'» she shares on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which is hosted by Miley today. «He hates mommy singing it.»

Idina admits that Walker instead prefers Finding Dory and not just because she’s on Ellen DeGeneres‘ show! Even though most people might be «sick» of Frozen, that’s not stopping Disney from creating a highly anticipated sequel in which Idina would appear once again. This time, however, fans are requesting that Disney #GiveElsaAGirlfriend after the studio failedGLAAD’s LGBTQ report card.

When Miley asks Idina if she could weigh in on the possibility, the Wicked alum said she didn’t know anything. «I’m a servant to Disney,» she jokes.»Trust me, that makes two of us,» Miley quips. «Welcome! No one knows that better than me, baby!»

Miley, who famously starred on Hannah Montana, has been vocal about her time spent on the Disney series, admitting to Elle that she was underpaid.

«I did not grow up spoiled in any way. I just wanted to be on TV. I mean, at one point—they’ll probably kill me for saying it—I was probably the least paid person on my cast because I didn’t know any better,» the actress recalls. «I was just like, ‘I can be on Disney! Yeah, I want to do it!'»While talking about Disney during her hosting duties, however, Miley says she hopes the Mouse House follows through with the gay character. Idina says she feels the same way.

«I am all for it. I think it’s wonderful,» Idina adds. «I can’t promise anyone that it’s going to happen because I’m a servant to Disney. I love Disney and I work for Disney.»
